Texas legitimacy

Is Texas unclaimed property legitimate?

Yes — and it's one of the easiest programs in the country to verify, because Texas runs it from the Comptroller's own office under a name it advertises itself: ClaimItTexas. If a letter, a website, or a person has made you wonder whether the Texas program is real, this page separates the state's door from everyone trading on its name.

The real door

The Texas Unclaimed Property program is run by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts at ClaimItTexas.gov. Verify it independently: start at texas.gov or the Comptroller's site (comptroller.texas.gov) and follow the unclaimed-property link — you'll land on the same door. Searching is free, filing is free, and the Comptroller pays heirs directly. Texas holds billions and returns hundreds of millions a year; heir claims run on the Comptroller's tier ladder (34 TAC §13.9), laid out on our Texas heir page.

What isn't the state

And this site?

MoneyLeftBehind is a private publisher (CLEARDEAL LLC) — not the Comptroller, not the state. Our checker computes your Texas tier and chain free and sends simple claims straight to ClaimItTexas; the kit is optional paperwork help for the hard claims. Verify us the same way: the legitimacy page and the public correction log.

Run your own claim. The free checker takes your state, your relationship, and your amount — and returns the probate-skip verdict, your document chain in order, the signatures you'll need, and the finder fee you'd avoid. Run the checker →

The working papers for this claim

The pages above are the map. The kit is the paperwork: the per-state checklists, the Table of Heirs worksheet, the letters that line up every heir's signature, and the chapter for the state's reply.

Included in the $39 MoneyLeftBehind Kit

  • The heirship-affidavit walkthrough: how to write it, who may witness it, where it must be recorded, and how Texas's four tiers decide which paper your amount needs
  • The per-state chain checklists: the exact document ladder for your state and your relationship, in order — which certificate, which form, which signature — with the state-specific rungs (Texas's tiers, New York's Table of Heirs, Florida's all-beneficiaries rule) built in
  • The finder-letter decoder: got a letter offering to 'find' money for a percentage? Read this first — the legal caps by state, the waiting periods that make some agreements void, and the free direct route that makes the letter worthless
  • The sibling and co-heir coordination pack: the letter to send your relatives, what each person must sign and send back, and the signature-collection tracker that keeps one slow cousin from stalling the whole family's claim
